Day in the Life
A typical day for children in the St Catherine's ELC
(Each day begins at 8.45am and concludes at 3.00pm.)
Our Morning Begins:
- Settling in time when children and staff greet each other and farewell parents
- Morning Meeting - this is a time for children and staff to share ideas and thoughts and plan the day
- A program including a variety of either indoor or outdoor experiences including small group project work
Mid-morning snack time:
Our children and staff enjoy a break together
Our Morning Continues:
- Group time which may involve stories, discussions, experiments, dancing, movement and singing
- Indoor or outdoor time which gives variety to what has occurred in the first part of the morning
Lunchtime (12.15pm-1.00pm)
Siesta (1.00pm-2.00pm)

Home time
The ELC program varies from time to time depending on the weather, specialist classes and the needs of the children. Parents are notified well in advance of incursions or excursions. At any time throughout the course of the year, you are welcome to collect your child early or have a day at home according to your child's needs, outside activities and level of tiredness. We see the Early Learning years as a stepping stone between home and school.
Food
Children bring their own morning tea and lunch. We recommend that a nutritious snack and lunch is brought each day eg a sandwich, fresh fruit, dried fruit or yoghurt and a drink of juice or water. Families are requested not to send processed, packaged or sugary foods, as we encourage the children to eat healthy foods.
Clothing
In the ELC children learn through all types of play experiences. We do not have a uniform for children attending the Early Learning Centre, however, St Catherine's t-shirts and tracksuit pants are available from the Uniform Centre. Children need to be dressed in practical, hard-wearing, comfortable clothing that is easy to manage when they go to the bathroom or undertake active play. All articles of clothing need to be named.
Before and Afterschool Care
Before School Care is available from 7.30am until the commencement of the School day at 8.45am. Afterschool Care is available from 3.00pm until 6.00pm.
