Year 11 students, Lauren Flint and Jade Robertson, have won an international youth business competition. The girls will travel to Singapore in August, all expenses paid, for the next phase of the Young Achievement Australia FedEx Trade Challenge 2009 competiton.

Lauren and Jade were shortlisted for an export plan they wrote for the Lucas Papaw Ointment product, which detailed how the multi-purpose ointment could be exported profitably and efficiently to the United Kingdom. The girls liaised with Boots, the British chemist brand, and with Lucas Papaw Remedies, as a part of their research.

The competition is designed to engage young people from eight countries through the creation of international entry strategy plans and, ultimately, competition.

In Singapore, the girls will compete with other winning teams from the Asia-Pacific region, gaining firsthand experience of world trade, enhancing their knowledge of product distribution, promotion, sales and competition and developing a range of personal skills including teamwork, risk-taking, and self-confidence.
