Our Da Vinci Decathlon win
A team of St Catherine's Year 7 students successfully combined their brain power, problem solving and deductive reasoning skills, to take out the English award at the recent 2009 Da Vinci Decathlon.
The Da Vinci Decathlon is an academic challenge day, where Year 7 teams from various Victorian schools compete to solve puzzles in the areas of Maths, English, Engineering, General Knowledge, Forensic Sleuths, Code Breaking, Art and Poetry.
The St Catherine's team comprising Year 7 girls, Phoebe Ding, Coco Garner Davis, Kate Clark, Ava Roshan, Elizabeth Wang, Alexandra Kent, Isabella Richardson and Claire Gifford worked together to solve a wide range of problems during the heat at Camberwell Grammar School.
What are the seven Ancient Wonders of the World? Can you play three dimensional Connect Four? Build a 50 centimetre, tower out of four straws, a sheet of paper and two safety pins, were just some of the questions and tasks awaiting them.
After a full day of fierce competition, where stamina, memory and problem solving power were put to the test, the St Catherine's girls were delighted to win the Da Vinci Decathlon's academic challenge in English. The students received a gold certificate to signify this tremendous achievement.
