Final day for our Year 12

Thursday 22 October 2009

It is with much sadness and with considerable regret that I report the extremely poor behaviour of a significant number of our Year 12 students following their celebration assembly yesterday. It is clear that much of the extreme silliness which resulted in what could be called minor vandalism to student possessions on the School campus, was pre-meditated.

To those Year 12 girls who behaved with dignity and assisted in cleaning up after the stupid acts of others, we give our sincere thanks.

I would also like to thank Mr Cross, Mrs Wallace-Smith, Ms Rodgers and all of the other staff who have, with care, dedication and absolute professionalism, taught and cared for our Year 12 girls throughout the year.

Tonight is the Year 12 Awards Night and Valedictory Dinner. Both events are happily shared with both parents and staff and I am looking forward to a wonderful evening with our girls and community.

The next few weeks will see all students doing Units 3 & 4 engaged in VCE exams. As is usual at this time of year, much is written about the value or otherwise of the ENTER. The fact remains that the ENTER is the means of, at least in part, determining university entry. Many of our tertiary institutions do, however, expect more than just the ENTER. They are very keen for their incoming students to be well rounded young adults with an interest in giving to the community and pursuing activities that are indeed beyond the curriculum and their chosen field of study - Bond University for example offers many students a place prior to the final exam. The students have to demonstrate a strong capacity for university studies but they must also demonstrate a well rounded attitude to life. We like to think that all our Year 12 students have such an attitude.
