A Highly Able Student!
Thursday 5 November 2009
Today I have asked Mrs Karyn Murray, Coordinator of Gifted and Talented Programs, to write for the Blog.
After spending five months researching on the topic of ‘Australia's International Law obligations and their application in Educational Rights', Amelia Hamer (Year 10) presented her findings at The University of Melbourne last week. Participating in the University's Mentor Program for Highly Able Students, Amelia chose to concentrate on the area of Law and then was required to narrow down her field to a specific area of expertise.
Amelia worked with her mentor, Professor Peter Johnson, to look at the basic human right to a free education and whether Australia was required to uphold this declaration in principle and in practice. The experience gave Amelia a wonderful insight into academic research. She should be congratulated for the persistence and dedication she displayed to reach her goal.
