Specialist Care for our International Students
A caring, practical approach
Ms Lana Laios is the Head of English as a Second Language (ESL) and International Students Coordinator at St Catherine's. Previously, Lana held a similar role at Tintern Girls' Grammar School for a number of years and has also had teaching experience in China. An experienced VCE teacher, Lana teaches the Senior ESL classes from Years 10 to 12 and also supervises the largely student-run International Club.
Lana's dual role, overseeing ESL and International Students, is multi-faceted; she liaises closely with all members of staff who are involved with our international students, most notably our Director of Student Wellbeing and Director of Boarding Services.
Lana plays a vital part in selecting International Students for admission and is responsible for each girl's pastoral needs from the time they arrive at the School, throughout their time at St Catherine's. This includes stewarding students through the sometimes difficult transition from overseas and assisting them as they settle into Melbourne life.
Lana says that one of the most enjoyable elements of her role is making connections with girls from diverse backgrounds: "I very much enjoy fostering meaningful relationships with the international students and guiding each girl on her journey as a global citizen."
